The beginnings of PRAGA manufacture date from 1907 when the First Czech-Moravian
machine factory bought a licence to assemble Isotta-Fraschini parts.
Production went ahead sucessfully so that by 1911 Praga was designing and
producing its own vehicles.
The PRAGA AN series came about in 1928. Model AN was equipped with a four-stroke
four cylinder spark-ignition engine. The vehicle had a detachable Ricardo engine
head, four-speed gearbox with reverse, single dry-plate clutch, worm-type
steering, half-elliptic laminated springs with hollow bolts treated for forced-feed
lubricator.
The Praga AN was supplied as an independent chassis or platform body with hinged
sides and hinged rear side.
The vehicle was robust and uncomplicated which meant widespread usage and long
durability.
A number of superstructures were built on the AN base from buses to fire
engines.
