One of the most legendary vehicles of the World War II was the heavy Tiger tank used by the Wehrmacht as by the Waffen SS units. This massive armored vehicle was a model for other specialized vehicles which were, however, built in only a very small number. One these vehicles was Bergepanzer VI Tiger, known as Bergetiger, which was basically a heavy support vehicle used in the separate heavy panzer divisions. With the gun removed from the turret the only weapon of the vehicle was 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun. However, on the back wall of the turret was a powerful winch with a simple crane construction with capacity of 15 tons. The winch of the crane was powered by the tank's engine. In this version the vehicle was primarily used in fitting or removing engines, gear boxes and other heavy components. Bergetiger, however, was not designed for rescuing the disabled Tiger tanks, although its name might suggest it. As far as is known, there were only three of these vehicles made, an one of them was captured towards the end of the war by the US troops in Italy.

All three Bergetigers, that were built, were most probably painted with Dunkelgelb (RAL 7028) on all surfaces. Some of them possibly had national markings - the beam crosses, on the sides.
